Floyd M. Bearden, Jr., of Atlanta, GA was escorted on October 3, 2016, by the angels into the arms of Jesus and is now dancing on streets of gold. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd M. Bearden, Sr. and Maud Spence Bearden and siblings, Louise Fisher, Irene Hardin, William "Jack" Bearden, Roy Bearden, Grace Gupton, Bertha Hudgins, Hugh Bearden, Nathan Bearden, Frank Bearden and Martha Jean Bearden. He leaves behind his sister, Frances Bearden Everette of Bethlehem, GA, sister-in-law, Dorothy Ramey Bearden of Cumming, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.
First and foremost, Floyd was a child of God. He lived his life as an example of Christ's love toward us. He was a patriarch and a patriot. He was a provider and a protector. He served in the Headquarters Battery 483rd Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion of the United States Marine Corps. His tour of duty included ground combat in the Western Pacific. He was honored to receive the American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and, not surprising, the Good Conduct Medal.
Upon his discharge he continued his service to our country by serving as a City of Atlanta police officer for 26 years. During his tenure with the police department, Floyd obtained a Masters of Law, specializing in Real Estate and Tax. He was a member of Delta Theta Phi. Upon his retirement from the police he became a licensed real estate agent and partner in Paramount International, LTD until retiring from full time work. Floyd never truly retired. At the age of 90 he was still serving family and friends as a tax and real estate advisor.
Obviously, Floyd was given the gift of wisdom, Knowledge and discernment. Of all the accolades that can be given to him, the one that means the most, after being a child of God, is how he loved family and his family loved him.
The family wishes to thank all who have extended condolences during this time. While we are rejoicing, we are feeling a great void of this exemplary man.
