Fondren Ned Boring

July 9, 1916 — October 18, 2010

Whether singing, playing tennis, square dancing, or sharing his joy of life with his family and friends, Ned Boring of Stone Mountain, GA was always looking for ways to serve and help others. This much beloved man left his earthly shell behind October 18, 2010 to cross into our Father's loving arms. Born in Thomasville, Georgia to Clifford and Mae Doss Boring on July 9, 1916, Ned first and foremost was a man of God. He started each day asking God to direct his steps. Second only to his love for his Lord was his devotion to his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Edmundson, and his affection and care for his daughters Babs Douglas (George) of Tucker, GA, Beth Stubbs (Jody) of Statesboro, GA and Buff Van Epps (Jim) of Roswell, GA. His family grew to 16 grandchildren and their 12 spouses, 9 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Each was important to Ned and he kept in touch with them all. Ned was preceded in death by his only siblings, Lester and Fred Boring. Proverbs 3:5-10 is the best description of Ned that can be found. When he wasn't working hard at his accounting and tax preparation business, you could find him serving in a myriad of ways at Columbia Presbyterian Church, Decatur, GA or spending time with his family. After partial retirement in the late 1990s, Ned enjoyed being on the tennis court a couple of times a week, until his diagnosis in November, 2009 of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. In addition to tennis and square dancing, he and Evelyn also enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and attending many events for their grandchildren. A veteran of WWII, Ned followed Gen. George S. Patton into battle six months after D-Day. He loved to report that he therefore never had to fire his rifle! After an honorable discharge, Ned obtained a Bachelor of Commercial Science degree from Georgia State University and spent his career in various accounting roles. In his own business, he not only prepared taxes and other financial filings, but also ministered to clients as needed. During the last 4 years, Ned provided full time care-giving to his beloved wife Evelyn after her diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease in 2006. On the advice of her doctors, she will not be told that her much loved husband is no longer physically present. She loves cards and visits. Visitation is scheduled at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, on Thursday 10/21 from 5 - 7 pm. There will also be a visitation Friday 10/22 at Columbia Presbyterian Church, 711 Columbia Dr., Decatur, from noon to 1:00 pm in the church parlor, followed by a service of worship and communion beginning at 1:30pm. Burial will follow at Melwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Department of Columbia Drive Presbyterian Church, or to Odyssey Health Care, 2362 Lawrenceville Hwy., Decatur.
