Frances Adams Floyd, 93, of Decatur died on Tuesday, May 03, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bert Floyd, a former employee of the C&S National Bank. A native of Hart County, Mrs. Floyd was the daughter of the late Wesley A. and Stella Pulliam Adams of Royston, GA. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Charles P. Adams, Sr., of Atlanta; her sister, Mary Alice Adams Hamner of Norcross; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Floyd received a BA degree from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She began her first year of teaching at Tate Elementary School in Tate in 1933. She returned to her native Hart County and taught 4th and 5th grades in a number of schools there before moving to DeKalb County in 1952. She taught 5th grade at Medlock School in DeKalb County until 1958 when she accepted a position as a Personnel Counselor for the DeKalb School System. She was involved in interviewing and selecting teachers for DeKalb's elementary schools. The Department was beginning to grow and expand. She remained in this position until her retirement in 1970. She was a professional person and dedicated herself to the principles and high quality of education in the school system. When asked what good teachers are made of, she mentioned high ideals, warmth, faith and hope for every child in the classroom, as well as professional skills. Both Mrs. Floyd and her husband were active in the Hartwell Baptist Church and after moving to Atlanta, in the First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates. They were choir members and were often requested to sing duets for various community functions. For a number of years, Mrs. Floyd has resided at 1800 Clairmont Place, Decatur. Graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston, on Thursday, May 5, 2005 at 11 AM. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Wednesday, May 4th at A.S. Turner & Sons.
