Frances Aikens Drummond, 83, of Covington, Georgia, passed away November 9, 2012, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta. Born February 26, 1929, in Pike County, Georgia, Frances was the oldest daughter of William Curtis Aikens and Louise Vaughn Aikens. For more than three decades she was Executive Secretary for the Commissioners of Human Resources and Georgia Department of Corrections. Frances was married for 62 years to the late Troy Weyman Drummond, Sr., and raised two children, Wayne Drummond, and Louise Drummond Harwell, while living on Stonybrook Drive in East Atlanta. In 1972, Troy and Frances moved to their cabin in the Parker's Neck region of Lake Jackson, in southern Newton County. An aficionado of crossword puzzles, Frances was a voracious reader. Genuine, compassionate, and generous to a fault, she was loved devotedly by her family members, relatives, and a wide circle of friends. Preceded in death by her late husband, Frances is survived by her son, his wife Nancy Fletcher, her daughter and husband Nat Harwell, two sisters, Jane Aikens of Covington, Georgia, and Betty Jean Aikens Thomas of Riverview, Florida. Additionally, she has five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, three nephews and three grand-nephews. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of J. C. Harwell Funeral Home in Covington. The family will receive friends from 1 pm-3pm.
