Frances Caroline Brugh

February 22, 1924 — June 27, 2022


Frances Caroline Ropp Brugh passed away on June 27, 2022, at the age of 98.  Frances was born on February 22, 1924, in Birmingham, Alabama to Pope and Ella Ropp.  She grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, and graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1943.  She went to nursing school at Mound Park Hospital and soon joined the Nurse Cadet Corps which allowed her to spend the last six months of training in a Government Hospital.  Frances chose Oak Ridge Hospital in Oak Ridge, Tennessee (home of the atomic bomb).  There, she met her husband of 43 years, Jack Wheeler Brugh.  They were married in 1947 and moved to Atlanta in 1948.  They joined Columbia Drive Baptist Church and were charter members.  Frances was still a member when the church disbanded and had been there for 57 years.  She is currently a member of Mountain Park First Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia.


 


Frances is survived by her two children, Michael Julian Brugh and wife Jackie of Martin, Georgia, and Susan Brugh LaPenta-Sahagian and husband Aram of Lilburn, Georgia.  Her seven grandchildren are Matthew Brugh and wife Carolyn, Mary Sparks and husband Bentley, Mark Brugh and wife Allison, Catherine LaPenta, Jack LaPenta, Michelle LaPenta and step grandchild Kyle Sahagian.  She was also blessed with six great grandchildren, Connor Brugh, Miles Brugh, Caroline Sparks, Aubrey Sparks, Baylor Brugh and Walker Brugh. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Leneve Huff.


 


Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack in 1990, and her son-in-law, Michael LaPenta along with her sisters, Alma Garlington and Mary Payne.


 


A graveside service will be held at Melwood Cemetery, 5170 East Ponce de Leon Avenue, Stone Mountain, Georgia, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 2, 2022.
