Frances Dale Buchanan

Mrs. Frances Dale Buchanan, 93, passed peacefully into her Savior’s loving arms on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. She was born on July 14,1929 in Pembroke, NC. She graduated from Pembroke High School in 1946 and attended Kings Business College in Charlotte, NC. In August 1954, she married Carl Buchanan Sr. of New London, NC, to whom she remained married for 25 years until his passing in 1979. They have two children, Carl Jr. and Renee’. Dale was an active and faithful member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and later at North Decatur Methodist Church. After the death of her beloved husband, Dale went to work for the Dekalb County Government in Decatur, GA, serving as an administrative assistant at the Decatur Courthouse. She retired in 1994. She then worked at Georgia Perimeter College in Clarkston, GA  from 1995 to 2009.


Dale loved the beach- any beach - but was partial to peaceful episodes at Mexico Beach, FL on the Gulf of Mexico. She loved sewing, reading, cooking and singing. There are countless special memories of the remarkable Sunday dinners at Nana’s house. Dale was a naturally gifted singer with a beautiful soprano voice. She was a member of the Decatur Civic Chorus for 21 years, performing across the country, including a concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City.


She was a devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother and loved to be with her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Buchanan Sr., six brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her son, Carl  Buchanan Jr. and wife Mary, of Dacula GA; daughter Renee’ Milligan and husband Rick, of Loganville, GA; her grandchildren Matthew Milligan and wife Wendy, of Monroe, GA; Zachary Buchanan, of Clemson, SC, Daniel Milligan, of Loganville, GA, Samuel Buchanan, of Marietta, GA and her great grandchildren Maci Milligan and Ansli Milligan of Monroe, GA.


She was a proud Native American descendant of the Lumbee Tribe in Pembroke, NC.


A family viewing and graveside service will be held at A.S. Turner and Sons on Sunday, August 14. Interment will be at Decatur Cemetery.
