Frances Gay White, longtime Laboratory Director at the Georgia Mental Health Institute, passed away on Friday, April 28, at age 79. Ms. White was born in Atlanta at Piedmont Hospital to the late William Cunningham White and Lola Frances Gay. She attended Brown High School and Georgia State College, graduating with a degree in medical technology. Ms. White's laboratory served as Reference Laboratory for Centers for Disease Control and was cited by the Joint Study of New Organisms Commission on Hospitals and Healthcare Organizations for exemplary performance. Ms. White was co-author of several scientific publications on DNA repairs and immunology.
Ms. White leaves behind cousins, colleagues and numerous friends.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 30th at 4:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons Chapel. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 1st at 1:00 C.S.T. at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Roanoke, AL. Visitation will be held Sunday before the service from 2:00 until 4:00 at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home.
