Frances Marie Browne Shumate

Frances Marie Browne Shumate, 89, of Atlanta, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018. Born February 10, 1928 in Tuscaloosa AL, she was the daughter of late Searcy Foster Browne and Jessie Marie Davis Browne.

Frances graduated from the University of Alabama, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She loved to cook & bake for her family. Being a talented & creative seamstress, she made beautiful clothing for her family, in addition to home fashions such as draperies and furniture re-upholstery. Primarily a homemaker raising her family, she worked a few years outside the home for various companies, including New York Life Insurance Co.

Frances, a recent widow, lost her husband Charles William Shumate just four months ago. She is survived by her son David Charles Shumate; daughter Leslie Marie Shumate Crawley; son-in-law William Mark Crawley; grandson William Brian Crawley; and granddaughter Elizabeth Marie Crawley. The family will have a private service in Tuscaloosa at a later date. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to your favorite charity.
