Frances Evelyn Williams Needham, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on June 15. She was born on November 17, 1935 to her late parents,
King David and Helen Williams. Frances grew up with her four siblings in Charlotte, North Carolinaand attended the Salvation Army Corp growing up; leading to lifelong friendships and meeting the
love of her life, Walter Dunmore Needham, whom she was married to for 59 years. She worked as a Nurse in various capacities from 1958 retiring in 1996. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Science
and Nursing from the Charlotte School of Nursing (now known as Carolina College of Health Sciences.)
After marrying, Frances supported Walter through his senior year at the Georgia Institute of Technology working at Emory Hospital. After Walter’s graduation, Frances continued serving as a Nurse in various capacities as they both embarked on the adventure of a lifetime as Walter pursued a career in Engineering in the U.S. Army. For 22 years in Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Germany,New Mexico, Japan, and Georgia, Frances Needham served as the family’s heart and home for Walter and their two boys, Eddie and David. Throughout the many moves Frances served as a women’s leader in International Christian conferences, women’s auxiliary boards, and leading officer spouse groups while raising their two sons. After Frances retired, she and Walter were dedicated
members of Victory World Church, supporting many of the church’s ministries. Hope Christian International Ministries supporting Mary’s Village in Liberia was very dear to Frances and Walter’s
hearts. These words from her son Eddie and nephew Christopher are an apt description of Frances’ life, "She was a fierce follower of Christ and full of the Holy Spirit. Her life elevated the trajectory
of her family tree."
Frances is survived by her two children, John Edward Dunmore Needham II (Eddie) and daughterin-law Leigh Ann Needham of Orlando, Florida and David Gordon Needham of Stone Mountain, Georgia; her eight grandchildren, Jonathan David Needham (Lily), Joy Ann Needham Sharp (Austin), Jennifer Leilani Needham Slack (Michael), Jessica Michelle Needham, Julia Nicole
Needham, Alexis Margo Needham, Chloe Olivia Anne Needham, and Gracie Elaine Needham; her two great grandchildren, Jane Rose Slack and Cassandra Joelle Slack; her sisters, Rebecca Engle(Jack) and Sylvia White; Walter’s siblings, Philip Dennis Needham (Keitha), John Thomas Needham(Marty) and Miriam Anne Needham; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Frances’ life will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 3:00pm in the Chapel at A.S Turner and Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA 30033. Visitation will be held at the same location from 2:00-3:00 pm, one hour prior to the celebration of life service. The following morning June 27, 2022 at 11:00 am, Frances will be laid to rest with Walter at
the Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA 30114. There will be a brief final farewell at the Cemetery’s Committal Shelter.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations be made in her memory to Victory World
Church, marked for “Hope Christian International Ministries.
