Frances Stinson Smith

SMITH, Mary Frances Stinson Smith, 95, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015, surrounded by her family at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Frances was an extraordinary woman who was adventuresome, athletic, and fearless. She was strong in her faith and always had a smile for everyone.
Frances was born September 18, 1920, in Opp, Alabama, to the late Charles Daniel Stinson and Elsie Blocker Stinson. She graduated from Soulé College in New Orleans in 1940. On April 13, 1942, she married Emory Theodore Smith in Sebring, Florida. Frances worked as a secretary to the principal at Avondale High School, Avondale Estates, GA, from 1962 to her retirement in 1987. Frances travelled extensively within the United States and Canada. She also visited Europe, Africa, Australia, South America and Antarctica.
Frances was a member of Columbia Drive Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Decatur. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Emory, brothers Charles and Cecil, and sister Jane. Frances is survived by her children, Richard (Sherri) and Linda (Gary), three grandchildren, Ted (Kristen), Kristine (Jim), and Lori (Michael), and 8 great-grandchildren, Savannah, Sherri, Alexander, Christopher, David, Douglas, Emory and Robert.
Frances has been cremated per her wishes. Family, Friends and others whose lives Frances touched are invited to a memorial service at the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033, on Sunday, January 3rd, at 3:00 pm. Dr. Bob Wiley, former Pastor of Columbia Drive Baptist Church will lead the service.
Our family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody and Crossroads Hospice for their attentive and loving care during the last 4 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Decatur or the Decatur Civic Chorus.
