Frances Virginia Lee

Frances Virginia Schaudies Lee of Decatur died peacefully Sunday morning at Tender Personal Care Home in Lawrenceville. She was 94. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert J. Lee. She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Lee Neal of Rapid City, SD, Peggy S. Lee of Duluth, Ga., and Sylvia Lee Wharton of Lilburn, Ga., as well as four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Virginia was born in West Point, GA and grew up in LaGrange. She attended Alabama College in Montevallo and graduated from Shorter College in Rome, Ga., majoring in sociology. She married the love of her life and when he returned from serving in WWII, they settled in Decatur. Virginia was active in the community and was a past President of the Decatur Junior Woman's Club and various gardening clubs. She was passionate about music, played piano, and taught her daughters and grandchildren to appreciate all types of music and art. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur in 1946. She served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, was a WMU President, and served on various church committees. She and her husband enjoyed many years as the chairmen for the church's wedding committee. In the mid 60's she began teaching kindergarten, including Briarcliff Baptist, Clairmont Hills Baptist, and Briarlake Baptist, again inspiring more generations of children with her love of music, poetry, and the arts. The family will gather at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur on Wednesday, November 20th from 4-8. A private burial will be in LaGrange on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amity Care Hospice and/or Tender Personal Care Home.
