Frank Edward Patterson

Frank Edward “Pat" Patterson, age 93, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away, Monday, December 29, 2008.  Born in Gumming, Georgia, on June 19, 1915, he was the son of Josiah Blair Patterson and Eunice Benson Patterson. Pat graduated from Cumming High School, Cumming, Georgia; Draughons School of Commerce, Atlanta, Georgia; and attended Georgia State Evening School 3 1/2 years. He is a graduate of the Savings and Loan Graduate School, University of Indiana, Bloomington, Indiana. He taught the Dale Carnegie Course Evenings for 10 years, receiving his basic training by Dale Carnegie and his Associate, Percy Whiting. Pat was employed by Williamson Inman Cotton Company for 20 years. He spent three years serving in World War II in the U.S. Army Finance Division. His last employment was at Decatur Federal Savings and Loan Association where he retired as Senior Vice President in 1980. Following his retirement, he served as a Consultant to Savings and Loan Associations in the Southeast unti1 1990. He enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge and travel. He was an active member of Decatur Presbyterian Church for over fifty nine years, serving as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Superintendent and various committees. He was preceded in death by his two older brothers and their wives, Henry Benson Patterson and Sara Frances Patterson; and Josiah Bernard Patterson and Charlotte w. Patterson. Pat is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia Ponder Patterson; daughter, Cheryl Golden and her husband John Golden of Decatur; granddaughters, Ashley Shue and husband Jeff Shue of Cumming and Cindi Sartain and husband Jeff Sartain of Grayson; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, John, and Samantha Shue; Preston and Kelly Sartain; nine nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 2nd at 11:00AM at Decatur Presbyterian Church, 205 Sycamore Street, Decatur, Georgia, 30030. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Decatur Presbyterian Church, Decatur, Georgia, 30030.  The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the church.
