Frank Johnson Garcia

Frank Johnson Garcia Sr. (aka “Lucky”) was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 1, 1925 to Frank Johnson and Antonia Garcia and was raised by Ephifanio Rivera. As a young child he grew up on E 101st Street in Spanish Harlem. Frank attended Aviation High School and was offered a football scholarship to Morgan State University. However, he declined and decided to serve his country. Frank served honorably in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from 9-17-1942 to 3-28-1946, with two years of sea service aboard the USS MINTAKA (AK-94) from 1944-1946. Following his Coast Guard service, he served as a Merchant Marine. On one of his many travels he landed in the Port of Durban S. Africa and met the love of his life in Jessie Garcia (Fynn) and were wedded on 12/07/1955 in Durban, South Africa. Frank later worked for NYC Department of Sanitation in Bayside Queens, N.Y. for many years, he finally retired and became a school bus driver for Logan Bus Company. Frank dedicated his life to his family. He proved himself as a hard worker, dedicated father and husband. He lived a fulfilling life which was evident through his love, support, humor, and discipline. He was a blessing to many people.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Antonia and Ephifanio Rivera.
He leaves to cherish his beloved wife Jessie Garcia; 4 children: Terry Garcia, Toni Garcia, Raymond Garcia (Charline), and Frank Garcia Jr. (Sandra); 8 grandchildren: Takiyah Graham (Corey), Jayson Maalea, Tiffany Nketiah (Kirby), Joi McKenzie, Jamal Reynolds, Imari Adams, Alexandra Adams, Zavier Garcia: 7 great grandchildren; Sylas Maalea, Coryn Graham, Amaya Graham, Bailey Graham, Peter Iacaopelli, Liam Nketia, Joella Nketia and a host of family and friends. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 1-3 pm at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory. A memorial service will take place in New York at a later date. A.S.
