Frank Logan Asbury III died peacefully at Hospice Atlanta on December 18, 2013, at the age of 86, due to complications following a stroke. He was born on April 3, 1927, in LaGrange, Georgia, son of Alice Pope Harris and Frank L. Asbury, Jr. He graduated from high school in Sylacauga, Alabama and from Emory University in 1949 after serving in the United States Navy as a Medical Corpsman. At Emory, he was a member of Epsilon Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order and remained an active alumnus of both Emory and KA throughout his life. He served on the Kappa Alpha Educational Foundation Board as member, President and Life Trustee. After college, he was employed by Adams, Holmes and Tharp, an insurance brokerage firm, which was bought by Alexander and Alexander, Inc. After 42 years, he retired from A and A as a Vice President. In 1964- 65, he served as president of the Georgia Chapter of the Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters. Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served in many leadership positions, was central in his life. He was an avid tennis player at the Druid Hills Golf Club and especially enjoyed time spent at the family mountain cabin on Lake Apalachia in North Carolina. For sixty years, fishing trips with his best friends were an annual highlight. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Mackay Asbury, their five children: Logan Asbury; Mackay Asbury and his wife, Nancy; Mary Lynn Luke and her husband, John; David Asbury and his wife, Kelly; Dan Asbury and his wife, Lee Anne; grandchildren, Gabriel Asbury and his wife, Rebekah and their daughter, Lily; Simon Asbury; Claire and Mason Asbury; Ben, Sam, and Grace Asbury; Brian and Allison Luke; Austin and Bryce Asbury; his brother, Harris Asbury and his wife, Anna; and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Alice Asbury Stone. Friends may visit with the family Friday evening from 5p.m.-8p.m. at A. S. Turner and Sons in Decatur. There will be a graveside service (open to all) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, at the City of Decatur Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Glenn Memorial UMC with a reception to follow.
