Fred Bernard Sher, 81, of Atlanta, Georgia, "slipped the surly bonds of Earth," Thursday, May 29, 2014, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Atlanta, after nine days in ICU. Born in Chicago on February 18, 1933, Fred spent his childhood in South Florida. He graduated from Riverside Military School in Gainesville GA, and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. After gaining knowledge and experience working as assistant manager in jewelry stores, he began traveling with lines of Imperial Pearls and Jaffee diamonds. In the early 1970's, he moved to Atlanta and opened Camelot Jewelers in Dunwoody, followed by Castleton Jewelers in Chamblee. In the late 1980's, he opened Interamerican Engraving. In recent years, he worked as a courier for Cardinal Health, delivering medical radioisotopes to hospitals in Atlanta and northeast Georgia. His joy in life was piloting 207CL, his Piper Lance. He was a member of Atlanta's Quiet Birdmen, and a Mason and Shriner. Fred received much acclaim for his participation in the Angel Flight program. "Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds . . ." Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his children, Mark Sher, David Sher, Wendy Beducian, and Heidi Brooks; grandchildren, Elliot and Tyler Beducian and Judy and and Hanna Brooks; former spouses, Glendora Sher, Helen Sher and CharleAnne Sher; and many close friends. His ashes will be scattered near Key West, where waters of the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico merge.
