Freda Copeland Hoffman

Freda Gwendolyn Copeland Hoffman, 95, of Albany, Georgia previously of Atlanta, Georgia, died on May 14, 2015 at home. Mrs. Hoffman was born on September 11, 1919 in Woodbury, Georgia and was raised in Brunswick, Georgia. Her husband, Dr. Byron Jay Hoffman, Senior preceded her in death on May 31, 1989. Mrs. Hoffman graduated with a bachelor's degree from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia and worked at her father's Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Brunswick, Georgia before becoming a wife and homemaker. Prior to relocation in Albany six years ago, she was an active member of Glenn Memorial Church on the Emory campus as well as an active member in the Lullwater Garden Club. She and her husband created a medical scholarship in their names for deserving medical students at Emory University. Freda is survived by Dr. Byron J. Hoffman, Jr. (son) and wife Erika of Chapel Hill, NC; Jeanette H. Hoopes (daughter) and husband Dr. Jeffrey Hoopes of Albany, GA; and Dr. Allen M. Hoffman (son) and wife Elizabeth of Kennesaw, GA; eight grandchildren: Byron J. Hoffman, III; Henry M. Hoffman and wife Seraphim; Dr. Erik C. Hoffman and wife Jessica; Dr. Heather Hoffman Abdelhakim and husband Dr. Mohamed Abdelhakim; Allen Maxwell Hoffman, Jr. and wife Ashley; Michelle H. Hevey and husband Dr. Matthew Hevey; Kelly A. Hoopes and Benjamin J. Hoopes. Interment will be May 23, 2015 beside her beloved husband at the Decatur City Cemetery in Decatur, Georgia at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. till 3:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia. Contributions in memory of Freda Hoffman may be made to Glenn Memorial Church, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. A.S.
