Frederick Joseph Baumgartner

March 11, 1918 — September 18, 2007

Frederick Joseph Baumgartner passed away on September 18, 2007.  He was born on March 11, 1918.  Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, he resided in Decatur for 58 years.  Fritz attended Boys High School in Atlanta and the University of Georgia, Atlanta Extension.  He retired from Atlanta Economy Drug Company after 40 years of service.  He served in both the Army and the Navy during World War II.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Nicholas [FL]

Baumgartner and Mary G. Baumgartner; brothers, Alton Baumgartner, Frank Baumgartner, Ralph (Sonny) Baumgartner and Paul Baumgartner.  Fritz was a long time active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.  He served as an Eucharisitc Minister and a lector as well as many other responsibilities.  He visited the sick for the church at Emory Hospital bringing them comfort for many years. Fritz was a loving husband to his wife, Catherine, for 67 years.  He was also a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.  Fritz was an avid golfer and loved all sports. Survivors are his wife, Catherine Warren Baumgartner; his children, Carol Baumgartner Brand of Ringgold, Fredrick Joseph Baumgartner, Jr. of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Amy Brand Raub of Orlando, FL, Katherine Brand Green of Temple, Neil Fredrick Baumgartner of Fayetteville, Nathan Wade Baumgartner of Fayetteville; and great-grandson, Austin Michael Green of Temple; sisters, Elizabeth Baumgartner Pierce, Helen Baumgartner Robertson; brother, Carl Baumgartner; and twenty one nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur from 6:00-8:00 on Thursday, September 20, 2007.  The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 11:00 on Friday, September 21, 2007. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Southeast Tennessee Alzheimer's Association. A. S. Turner & Sons
