Frederick LeVerne Walker Jr, 94, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016. He was born May 16, 1921, in Lynchburg, Va, and graduated from Decatur High School and Georgia Tech where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Upon graduation from Georgia Tech in 1942, he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army and entered WWII. He served in North Africa and as an anti-aircraft staff officer in Gen. George Patton's 3rd Army Headquarters in France and Germany. He was truly a member of the "Greatest Generation." A ceramic engineer, he was associated for many years with Atlanta Brick and Tile and retired from Bickerstaff Brick Company. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Frances Thomas Walker, parents, Fred Walker Sr. and Harriet Smith Walker, son Frank Thomas Walker and brother Jack Walker. He is survived by children, Patti (Ned) Giles, Fred (Libby) Walker, III and Alex Smith Walker; grandchildren, Mary Frances Giles and Katherine Walker Giles; and step-granddaughter, Sondra Johnson; plus several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, in the chapel of Northside United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Gil Watson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in Decatur Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in his name to your favorite charity. Arrangements by A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory.
