FREDERICK ROSS (RICK) MERRITT, JR, 71, passed away from ALS on Monday, January 21, 2014. Rick was born in Louisville, Kentucky. After World War II his family moved to Miami, Florida. He became an avid sailor beginning at a young age and it became his passion. He went from small boats to crewing on large sail boats and was a long time member of Coral Reef Yacht Club. Rick entered the United States Coast Guard in 1965 serving in Florida and Puerto Rico on four different ships as a Quartermaster. Most of his career was in sales, but also in transportation and logistics. Rick is survived by his wife, Patricia Merritt, his children Frederick Ross (Rick) and Teresa Merritt, III, William Henshaw (Bill) and Connie Merritt, three grandchildren, Emily Susan Merritt, Frederick Ross (Ross) Merritt, IV and William Henshaw (Shaw) Merritt II, his sister, Florence Merritt Percy, brother, Jessie Merritt, and many nieces and nephews. There will be Visitation at 1:00 and a memorial service following at 2:00 on Saturday, July 26th at A.S. Turner Funeral Home 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033 404-292-1551.
