Frederick “Fred” Starnes Kirby, age 73, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 17, 2008. He was born and reared in Woodland, Alabama, son of Thomas J. Kirby and Gertrude Fincher Kirby. He is survived by his wife, Frances Parker Kirby; son, Timothy S. Kirby (Tammy), Buford, GA; daughters, Nandell K. Coursey (Rick), Sugar Hill, GA, Gloria K. Costigan (Richard), Granite Bay, CA; grandchildren, Christopher and Elizabeth Kirby, Hannah and Holland Coursey, Eric, Emma and Andrew Costigan; sister, Ruth Kirby Sanders, Atlanta and brother, Kelly M. Kirby, Birmingham, AL. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence J. Kirby, Robert E. Kirby, Dr. Thomas W. Kirby and Charlie R. Kirby. Fred graduated from the University of Alabama, was an enthusiastic Alabama football fan and an avid golfer. He served with the Strategic Air Command for four years and retired from the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 1991. Fred was a member of OakGroveUnitedMethodistChurch and the Seekers Sunday School class. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 20th at 10 A.M. at Oak GroveUnited Methodist Church. The graveside service will be at Liberty Grove Church Cemetery, Woodland, AL at 3 P.M. C.S.T.
