Frédérique Paule-Marie Raix McGirt, 53, of Decatur, Georgia passed away on April 28th, 2023. Born on April 2nd, 1970, in Châtenay-Malabry, France, she was the only child of Michel Raix and Françoise Dupuy Raix. She is preceded in death by her father Michel Raix and mother-in-law Nancy Tuggle.


Frédérique grew up in Sceaux, France where she graduated and received her Baccalauréat from Lycée Marie Curie in 1988. She went on to earn her degree in clinical psychology from Université Paris VII Jussieu in 1992. After graduating university Frederique decided to pursue her dream of being a teacher. In 1994 she joined the staff of École Internationale de Philadelphie in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1996 she moved to Atlanta where she joined the staff of Atlanta International School. Frédérique dedicated twenty-seven years of her life to AIS educating hundreds of young minds. Her passion for educating, mentoring, and challenging students was unrivalled.


In 1995, Frédérique married Mitchell Harris McGirt from Kinston, North Carolina. The couple eventually made their home in Decatur, Georgia in 1998 where they raised two wonderful daughters - Louise Caroline McGirt (b. 1996) and Flora Victoire McGirt (b. 2001).


Frédérique is survived by her husband of 28 years Mitchell McGirt, daughters Louise and Flora, mother Françoise Dupuy, stepfather Michel Ferro, stepmother Francine Raix, father-in-law Dr. Murphy McGirt, Jr., and mother-in-law Anita McGirt.


Frédérique loved to travel. Sparked by her curiosity for other cultures she traveled to countries on four continents. She loved dancing and the music of David Bowie. She loved good food and she loved a good meal shared with family and friends. She loved creating works of art. She was a crusader for children. She poured her heart and soul into teaching as well as helping charities that bettered the lives of children around the world. Frédérique had a magnetic personality. She attracted people with her beauty, style, charm, intellect, dynamism, and humor. She loved her family more than anything, but, if you became a friend of hers, she would make you feel like you were a member of her family. Frédérique made sure that her family, friends, colleagues, and even just casual acquaintances knew how sincerely she cared about them. She lived to make a positive impact on the world one relationship at a time.


A celebration of life for Frédérique Raix McGirt will be held at 3 p.m. on May 13th, 2023, at the Clarkston Community Center 3701 College Ave Clarkston, GA 30021 with a reception with family and friends following the service.
