Fredrick Charles Proctor, 93, died at Eden Brook of Alpharetta on September 16, 2008. Family was the central focus and joy of Fred Proctor's life. He leaves a legacy of courage, dignity, grace, kindness, caring, dependability and love. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. Fred Proctor was born in Ocala, Florida and later moved to Charlotte, N.C. where he met his wife of seventy years, Bonnie, who preceded him in death two years ago. In 1958, they were transferred to Atlanta with Anheuser-Busch, Bakery Products Division, where he worked as District Sales Mgr. until his retirement with 47 years of service. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and he was well known for his many delicious tomatoes and vegetables. His yard was always full of beautiful flowers which he enjoyed so much. Once he planted over 2,000 tulips. He was known to even plant flowers for a neighbor and his daughters so the soil mixture would be "just right." He loved fishing, boating and woodworking. He often made cribs and chairs for his wife's collection of over 800 dolls. During retirement they enjoyed traveling to Japan, England, Italy, Spain, Greece, Brazil, Tahiti, to mention only a few. He went beyond the call with his loving care for Bonnie in her decade long battle with poor health. At Bonnie and Fred's 70th wedding anniversary, Fred said, "The Good Lord looks after us- nobody could be married 70 years without the Good Lord." As he slowed down physically these past months, he continued learning and was an avid reader. He always appreciated and loved hearing from family and friends throughout his recent illness. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He is survived by three children and their spouses: Fred C. Proctor, Jr. and Carol (Cumming, GA); Becky Fleming and John (Big Canoe, GA); Judy Wilson and Dave (Huntsville, AL); seven grandchildren; Fred C. Proctor, III and Jamie; Shannon Wright and Steve; Reid Fleming and Danielle; Courtney Humbaugh and Scott; Joel Wilson; Dr. Patrick Wilson, and Wesley Wilson; seven great grandchildren: Austin Wright, Mitchell Wright, and Justin Wright, Will Proctor, Cole Proctor, Jackson Fleming, Wyatt Wilson and several dear nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. The family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks to his loving caregivers. A memorial service is planned for Friday, September 19th at 11 AM at Big Canoe Chapel, Big Canoe, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Butterfly Garden at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, GA. 30033 or to the charity of your choice.
