Quay Alfreida Forkner entered into eternal rest September 20, 2012. Freida was born on July 19, 1924 in Coolidge, Georgia, the daughter of John Linton Banister and Sara Tallulah Banister, the only girl of nine children. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Charlotte NC in 1945. Later she began her nursing career in Atlanta where she met and married her husband of 48 years, John Candler Forkner, of Avondale Estates, Georgia. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She loved to travel, entertain and spend summers on Lake Lanier with family and friends. Freida was an active member of Avondale Garden Club. She was actively involved as a Stephen Minister at Decatur First United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 55 years. Most importantly, she was a woman of deep faith who gave generously to everyone. She is survived by a brother, Jon Linton Banister and sister-in-law, BJ Banister of Thomasville, Georgia; sister-in-law, Betty Banister of Tucker, Georgia; daughter, Kathryn Forkner Bruce of Sandy Springs, Georgia; daughter, Peggy Forkner Sikes and son-in-law, Joseph Bidwell Sikes of Suwanee, Georgia; 5 grandchildren, Jason Candler Bruce, Joseph Wesley Bruce, Justin Bidwell Sikes, Brittany Jo Strickland, Lindsey Quay Sikes and 2 great-grandchildren, Brinson and Brantley. Visitation is Tuesday, September 25th from 5-8 p.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033. Funeral service is Wednesday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Decatur First United Methodist Church, 300 E. Ponce de Leon Ave. Decatur, Georgia 30030 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane, Duluth, Georgia 30096 or Decatur First United Methodist Church, 300 E.
