G. Allison Oakes

June 7, 1939 — May 7, 2011

G. Allison Oakes, 71, passed away from Parkinson's complications on May 7, 2011. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Ellen Hodgson Oakes. He was also survived by son David Oakes and his wife Linda, son Stephen Oakes and his children Brennon and Ashlyn, daughter Laura Whitaker and her husband Brent and children Seth and Chase. Other survivors include his brother and sister-in-law Mark and Becky Hodgson and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Oakes worked for AT&T and Bell South. He was also an avid hunter, nature lover and gunsmith. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. Mr. Oakes graduated from Decatur High School in 1957 and attended Georgia State University. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 11th in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons. Dr. Corey Ingold will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at A.S. Turner & Sons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buford Presbyterian Church, 1242 Buford Hwy, Buford, GA 30518 or the Parkinson's Foundation (www.PDF.org).
