Gail F. Cabisius, 83, died peacefully on April 20, 2025. Gail resided in Decatur for over 50 years and was faculty emerita of Agnes Scott College. She was a cherished sister, partner, aunt and friend.
Gail was an academic, scholar, baseball fan, Yankee by birth; southerner by choice, pianist, excellent cook, avid reader, devoted friend, cancer survivor and world traveler. She loved her dogs and cats and especially enjoyed observing and photographing wild places and creatures throughout the southwest, the everglades and elsewhere throughout her life. She traveled with Agnes Scott College students to the mediterranean many times and loved being a mentor and teacher to them.
Gail earned an undergraduate degree from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., an M.P.A. from Georgia State University, and a Ph.D. in Classics from Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, PA. She was Associate Professor of Classical Languages and Literatures at Agnes Scott College until her retirement in 2004. Her legacy lives on through the impact she had on her students and the love she gave her family and friends.
Gail was predeceased by her parents, Bernard A. and Doris Murphy Cabisius. She is survived by her sister, Nancy (Roger) C. Broberg, of Evansville, WI; life partner Susan Lindsley of Decatur, GA; three nieces, Beth Hohler of Charlton, MA, Christy Broberg of Elkins Park, PA,and Alison Brumbaugh of Evansville, WI; and 11 great nephews and 1 great niece.
