Gary Wiley Merriman, 80, of Atlanta, GA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 21, 2015. Born July 15, 1935 at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, he was the son of Willie Vernon and Emma Pearl Wood Merriman. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Callaway Merriman, their four sons Gary Vernon Merriman, William Wiley Merriman, Stephen Callaway Merriman, and Robert Wood Merriman; two sisters Darlene McLelland and Judy Hart; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two nephews and his beloved dogs Mindy and Molly. Mr. Merriman attended Bass High School in Atlanta where he was an excellent football player, achieving All-City status. He worked with his father, Bill, most of his life in real estate management. After retiring he spent time doing the things that he loved – fishing, golf and tennis at Druid Hills Golf Club, but his family was his biggest passion. He was a very loving husband, son, brother and father. He was genuine and tender with all that he loved. We love you and will miss you, Daddy. Services will be 10:00 AM Friday in the chapel at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, Decatur. Interment will be 12:00 PM Friday at Providence Baptist Churchyard, Alpharetta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
