George Fountotos

April 11, 1946 — August 18, 2017

Fountotos, George, 71, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on Friday, August 18th, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Stamatia and brother in-law, James Slay. George was born in Tarpon Springs, Florida and moved to Atlanta, Georgia in his youth. He graduated from East Atlanta High School and later joined the United States Navy where he was stationed in Italy for most of his duty. He spent the majority of his adult years in Atlanta and retired to Phoenix, Arizona in 2009. George was member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. His hobbies and passions were auto racing, biking, hiking, UGA football, and spending time with his granddaughter. George is survived by his son, Nicolas Fountotos (Cindy); sister, Maria Slay; granddaughter, Peri Fountotos; nephew, Steve Slay; niece, Stacy Dukes (Michael) and grandnieces, Hannah Slay and Danielle Dukes. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in George’s honor to the American Diabetes Association. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 26th at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation; 2500 Clairmont Rd., Atlanta, GA 30329,with interment to follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, August 25th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033.
