George H. Schott, 90, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at home in Atlanta. The eldest child of Harry Henry Schott and Gladys Phoebe Davis, George was born January 17, 1918, in Dunmore, PA. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945, he settled in Atlanta. He worked as a machinist and a machine shop planner at Delta Air Lines for 31 years, retiring in 1980. A talented craftsman, carpenter, and repairman, George generously did countless projects for family and friends. He belonged to the Peachtree Squares Square Dancing Club for three decades. A longtime active member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, he enjoyed attending the EEE Sunday School Class and was a volunteer at the church's Family Life Center. A kind, devoted, and loving husband and stepfather, George is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carmen Schott; stepdaughters, Judy (Larry) Abbey of Tucker, Connie (Jim) Schultz of Fayetteville, GA, and Cathy (Ed) Arner of Keller, TX; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 29, in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons, Dr. David Sapp and Dr. Charles Qualls officiating. Members of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church's EEE Sunday School Class will serve as an honorary escort. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, Atlanta 30319, or the Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church Building Fund, 2715 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta 30305. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, December 28, at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home.
