George Hamilton Brodnax, Iii

June 13, 1927 — May 20, 2011

George Hamilton Brodnax III, 83, was born in Atlanta, June 13, 1927 and passed away Friday, May 20th, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents George H. Brodnax, Sr. and Virginia Jones Brodnax and grandson, Michael J. Daniels, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jodale Dewees Brodnax and four children, Helen Hall (Jim) of Columbus, GA, George Brodnax IV (Leslie) of Lawrenceville, GA, Peter Brodnax (Elizabeth) of Knoxville, TN, and Nellie Hibbard (Mark) of Cartersville, GA; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, Harriett McCrory. He will be greatly missed by his family. Mr. Brodnax graduated from Boy's High in1945, was a superb athlete, excelling in football at Boy's High and then at Georgia Tech ('45-'48). He was a 4 time letterman and 3 year starter at Tech, captain, an All-American, and All-SEC player in '48. After college he was drafted by teams in the NFL and AFL, was a member of the GT Hall of Fame, GA Sports Hall of Fame and the AAC Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Atlanta Athletic Club, President from '76-'78, serving while the AAC hosted the '76 US Open. George was President and owner of Tech Steel at retirement, past president of the GA Freight Board, served on the Boards of the Atlanta Area Campfire Girls, Boy Scouts and the Methodist Children's Home. A long time member of Oak Grove UMC and the Graydon Sunday School Class. A memorial service will be held at Oak Grove United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 25th at 10:30 am with a reception following at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Methodist Children's Home, 500 S. Columbia Dr., Decatur, GA 30030, A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur
