Mr. George K. Routhe, 93, born April 3, 1921 in Copenhagen, Denmark died June 19, 2014 in Decatur, Georgia. After traveling throughout Europe, the Caribbean and Canada, he became a US citizen in the early 60's. He remained proud of his Danish heritage and his time serving his homeland as a Lieutenant in the Gardehusarregimentet (Royal Danish Cavalry). After his military service, George enjoyed a career as an industrial engineer in the textile industry in Europe and the States. He lived a life of adventure, was extremely athletic and enjoyed running around Stone Mt into his 70's. He is survived by his devoted wife, Martha McCart Routhe, daughter and son-in-law, Maggie and Robert Jett of Atlanta and extended family in Denmark. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his desire to bring a laugh or a smile to everyone he met. Memorial services will be held at The First Baptist Church of Decatur at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24th.
