George M. Pass

George M. Pass, 69, of Stone Mountain GA. passed away Sunday, November 2, 2008.  George was born November 14, 1938 in Chattanooga, TN to Minnie and George Pierce Pass, who preceded him in death.  George graduated from Chattanooga City High School in 1957.   He was a HAM radio operator in high school, and from that developed a lifelong passion for broadcasting, making sure that radio broadcasts were crystal clear and always on air.  He began his career over fifty years ago at radio station WDOD in Chattanooga.  He moved to Atlanta in 1963 to work for radio stations WPLO, WVEE,  WAOK, serving as Atlanta’s youngest Chief Engineer.  George retired from WPLO, WVEE, WAOK in 1980, however he continued his career as a freelance engineer, servicing and building radio stations in the southeast until his death.  Two of George’s proudest accomplishments were the Grand Marshall award winning float he and fellow employees constructed for the 1984 WSB Salute 2 America parade, and the “Great Pumpkin” used in remote broadcasts for WPLO, WVEE, WAOK to distribute candy to kids in the audience at Halloween promotions. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Perry Pass; daughter Pat Herndon, her husband Bruce and their children Chris and Tori Herndon; daughter Susan Livingston, her husband Del and their children Tracy Gentry, Doug Livingston and Elizabeth Livingston; son David; and a large supportive family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home at 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur GA.  Services will be held at the funeral home at 1PM Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Georgia, 2951 Flowers Road, South, Suite 211, Atlanta, GA 30352.
