George Richard Headley, 89, of Stone Mountain, died March 13, 2013. A native of Burden, Kansas, Mr. Headley served his country during World War II in the South Pacific as a U. S. Marine. He received his theological degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary, and served his entire 35 year career at First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates. Mr. Headley is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Elaine Headley; daughter, Lou Ann Brauer; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Ed Lord, Coeleen and Richard Capps; son and daughter-in-law, Jon Paul and Judy Headley; grandchildren, Alex, Jason and Max Brauer, Taylor and Bonnie Bell, Christian and Madison Capps and Jon Paul, Jr. and Jordon Headley; great grandchildren, Ella and Van Brauer. The funeral will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, March 17, at Smoke Rise Baptist Church, with Rev. Kent Burel and Rev. Ernie Forrester officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of George Headley may be made to Smoke Rise Baptist Church, 5901 Hugh Howell Rd, Stone Mountain GA 30087. The family will receive friends 4-7 Saturday at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
