Gerald Clayton of Avondale Estates, GA passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born in Crescent City, FL on August 2, 1924 to Thomas and Mary Clayton.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Betty Clayton and his youngest son Michael Daniels Clayton. Gerald and Betty moved to Avondale Estates in 1952 and he was a CPA and founder of the firm Clayton Paulk and Associates. He was also a founding member of Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church and a member of American Legion Post 66.
Gerald was a World War II veteran and served in the 101st Airborne Division and parachuted into France on D-Day. He is survived by his brother Alonzo Clayton of Reno, Nevada, son and daughter-in-law Larry and Peggy Clayton of Avondale Estates, son and daughter-in-law Gary and Del Clayton of Snellville, and Rick and Kathie Pierce of College Park. In addition, 7 grandchildren, Heather Schutz, Lori Osborn, Lee Clayton, Michael Clayton, Katie Clayton, Elizabeth Clayton and Mallory Banke and 7 great grandchildren. The family would also like to thank Marycharles Roberts for her years of dedication and companionship.
The family will welcome friends to a visitation at the A.S Turner Funeral Home of Decatur, GA Monday, Dec. 18th from 5:30PM to 7:30PM. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Forest Park.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a memorial gift may do so to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church.
