Geraldine Dobbins Freeman

February 19, 1930 — April 27, 2016

Geraldine Dobbins Freeman, 86, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. She was born February 19, 1930 in Chapmanville, Logan County, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Porter F., Sr. and Osa Minney Dobbins. Also preceding her in death was her husband of nearly 62 years, Kenneth Marshall Freeman, Sr., he was the love of her life and her best friend. Her brother Edwin Harold Dobbins and her sister Bernadine Dobbins also preceded her in death.

Kenneth and Geraldine were high school sweethearts, both graduating from Logan High School in 1948. She was a true homemaker and a dedicated wife and mother. She was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and she also served as a Girl Scout leader. Geraldine had many interests, including tending her rose gardens, sewing, photography, family history, and keeping up with current events. Her greatest joy was her family, and she learned to use social media to help her stay in touch with family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Kim McLemore and her husband, Phil, and Terri Lynn Freeman Ellis and her husband, Keith; son, Marshall Freeman, Jr. and his wife, Becky; eight grandchildren: Shannen Kozlowski and her husband, Michael, Liann Walker and her husband, Chris, April Houston and her husband, Inman, Rebecca Carter and her husband, Travis, Gordon McLemore and his wife, Chisa, Stephanie Earnest and her husband, Troy, Tripp Freeman, and Brandon Freeman and his wife, Audrey; twenty-one great-grandchildren: Buzz, Kaili, Hannah, Tess, Ethan, Drew, Jacob, Grace, Logan, Micah, Ryley, Cammy, Skylar, Sayge, Myles, Koyo, Kaito, Kaiji, Owen, Nolan, and Evie; brother, Porter F. Dobbins, Jr. and his wife, Dottie; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016 at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia, with Rev. Inman J. Houston officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday, May 1, from 6:00-8:00pm. Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery immediately following the service.
