WILLIAMS, Geraldine -
Geraldine Mitchell Williams (Gerry) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday
September 14, 2009. She was born September 6, 1924. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. Her husband, Ottis Williams, a naval aviator, preceded her in death. Gerry is survived by her children, David Williams of Decatur, GA, Diane Roy of Center Lovell, ME, Leilani Williams of Honolulu, HI, Peggy Hall of Phoenix, AZ, and Betty Williams-Whorton of Anchorage, AK; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Cash and Charlotte Little of Brunswick, GA and Rachel Worley of Placerville, CA. Gerry was a member of our country’s greatest generation. She worked supporting our troops during World War II, and shortly thereafter, met and married a young naval officer, while attending Howard College in Birmingham, AL. They enjoyed a marriage of over 50 years. During that time, Gerry lovingly nurtured her family as they moved through naval assignments from the east coast to the west coast, including Honolulu, HI and Kodiak, AK. After retiring, Gerry returned to school to obtain a Georgia teacher’s certificate and began a new career by teaching middle school for several years. She retired again and spent several years in Anchorage and Phoenix enjoying time with her grandchildren, ultimately settling in Decatur, GA. She was a wonderful example for her family who cherish her memory and legacy. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Decatur on Friday, September 25 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Mountain View Personal Care Home, 3675 Kensington Road, Decatur, GA 30032; Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission, PO Box 230510, Anchorage, AK 99523-0510; or Odyssey VistaCare Hospice Foundation, 717 N.
