Geraldine Patricia Cross, known to everyone as Jerry, departed this world on November 5, 2007 after a long struggle with heart failure. Jerry was 63 years old. Jerry was born in Atlanta on September 29, 1944, and she was very proud to have been a native-born Atlantan. Her father was in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific when she was born and his entire bomber crew participated in selecting her name. Jerry graduated from Tucker High School in 1962 as the school's Valedictorian. She earned degrees from the University of Georgia and Emory University and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Jerry was a librarian for more than 30 years primarily with Mercer University Atlanta and the DeKalb County Public Libraries. She was the consummate professional and only retired due to her health. Jerry was a lady in the old-fashioned sense of the word. She exemplified beauty, style and grace. She greatly enjoyed art and traveled much of the world with her husband enjoying the various cultures and art treasures of Europe and the Far East. Jerry's favorite place in the world was Monet's garden in Giverny, France, which she visited on many occasions. Jerry is survived by her husband Dr. John P. Cross; her brother Dr. Harold W. Fountain, Jr. and his wife Linda Fountain; her two stepdaughters, Jane Cross of Harriston, Tennessee and Johnna Cross Hord of Kennesaw, Georgia; and her step granddaughter Emma Elizabeth Hord. She was predeceased by her father, Dr. Harold W. Fountain, Sr. and her mother, Ida Pope Shannon. Jerry was one of God's special souls who made this world a better place because she was in it and leaves it a sadder place because she has left. It is the wish of the family that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Vista Care Hospice (678) 581-1115. A grave side service will be held at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, Georgia on November 8, 2007 at 2 P.m. There will be a visitation on November 7, 2007 from 6 until 8 p. m. at A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA.
