Gertrude Pasley, born May 17, 1917 in Chicago, IL, passed away Friday, November 26, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John W. Pasley, Jr. Prior to her marriage; she worked for the Lutheran Children's Society in Milwaukee, WI. She retired after 32 years of service with the Atlanta Police Department as Administrative Assistant. She served as secretary for 25 years to Chief Herbert T. Jenkins and the Police Committee of the Atlanta Board of Alderman. Gertrude Pasley received various awards and honors throughout her lifetime. She received Member of the Year and Lifetime Member of Atlanta Women's Chamber of Commerce; WSB Radio Beaver Award for work with new U. S. Citizens; National Safety Award for home and school safety programs; National Safety Award for two year program "Women Alert" seminars; Atlanta Board of Aldermen resolution for work in the community; Trustee of City of Atlanta Credit Union for 19 years; appointed Honorary Battalion Chief of Atlanta Fire Department for fire prevention programs in schools; Personnel Administrator Award of the Year by the International Personnel Management Association of North Georgia; participated in Southeast Safety Council Conference in Jacksonville, Fl, Noise Abatement Symposium in Chicago, IL, and Law and Order Justice Symposium in Atlanta; served on Public Relations Staff of International Association of Chiefs of Police; received Post Properties Resident Award; and was a member of Salvation Army and the Atlanta Christian Women's Club. Gertrude was a member of the Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, past president of Lutheran Church Women, Sunday School teacher, 731 Club, Care Board, Redeemer Quilters, Bereavement Coordinator, WELCA Board, New Member Committee, and editor for 10 years for bi-monthly newsletter "This n That". She is survived by sisters, Hildegarde Vanic of Sheboygan, WI, Eileen Jensen of LaMesa, CA; and nieces and nephews from Hawaii, California, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Minnesota. A memorial service for Gertrude Pasley will be held on Monday, November 29th at 1:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 731 Peachtree St., N.E., Atlanta, GA, (404)-874-8664.
