Gladys Griffiths Smith, November 13, 1915 - August 22, 2012, passed away at 96 years of age. Gladys was a first generation American from Welsh parents and was born in McCanse, PA. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother and a wonderful great-grandmother. She was an avid seamstress and a devoted charter member of Clairmont Hills Baptist Church. Her card ministry was well known to all in the church and they could count on her to send uplifting messages when they faced challenges. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude E. Smith, Sr., her loving son, Claude E. Smith, Jr. and her youngest grandson, Wesley Edward Smith. She is survived by her brothers Frank Griffiths and Seiriol Griffiths, son, William E. Smith and his wife Claire, her daughter-in-law, Carol G. Smith, four grandchildren, Catherine Beckham, Sean Smith, Cory Smith & Brittany Smith Stewart and her husband, Christopher, and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 26, 2012 in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Rev. Fred Pitts and Rev. Larry Burgess officiating. Interment will be in Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the When Everyone Survives Foundation for Leukemia Research, 6555 Sugarloaf Parkway, Suite 307, Box 202, Duluth, GA 30097 or www.wheneveryonesurvives.org. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Saturday at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
