Glance A. "Jack" Kilgore of Decatur passed away on Saturday, April 15th, 2023. Jack was a World War II veteran with 4 years of service with the United States Merchant Marine in the north Atlantic and south Pacific, when ship to ship to shore communications relied on morse code. He later met his wife of 57 years, Katherine Kilgore, after attending the University of Texas and both having a background in broadcasting and communications. Jack was a prominent insurance broker across the state of Georgia for many decades, during which time he was able to expand and explore his interests and hobbies: travel, history, especially anthropology and early indigenous American culture, and a heavy interest in archaeology. Jack was an avid member of The Greater Atlanta Archaeological Society (GAAS), and a 25-year volunteer at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Jack's level of engagement with these hobbies, staying active, including his love for walking in the local woods and swimming, helped him maintain a high degree of independence to the golden age of one hundred years and seven months.
He is survived by his daughter, Holly Wetzel of Decatur, his son, Christopher "Kit" Kilgore and his wife Cathy, of Sautee Nacoochee, GA, and his only grandchild, Terrence Wetzel of Decatur, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him and will miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13th, at 2pm in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons, with a visitation at 1pm before the service. Additionally, a graveside burial service will be held on Monday, May 15th at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 3pm.
