Glenn Miles Whittemore of Decatur, GA died September 5, 2011. Born in Gordon County on August 22, 1921, he was the son of James William and Willie Dell Padgett Whittemore. After graduating from West Georgia College he taught school in Gordon County, was employed in Rome by Atlanta Gas Light Company, served in the Signal Corps in the US Army during WW II, worked with US War Assets and was employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta until he retired in 1980. After receiving his BBA from UGA, Mr. Whittemore, in 1952, became a member of the Georgia Bar Association, and in 1957 he earned his CPA. He joined Oak Grove UMC in 1956 serving as president of the United Methodist Men, as a member of the Administrative Board, as Offering Counter and Usher, and was a member of the Mariners SS Class. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Lewis Miles. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Virginia Lewis of Calhoun; son, James T. and wife Julie, of Lilburn; daughter, Lynne Sanders and husband, Stuart, of Clarkesville; and son, David G. and wife, Lisa, of Dallas, TX; eleven grandchildren, Stacey Michiara, Lauren Patterson, and Matthew Whittemore; Carson, Amanda, and Jordan Sanders; Madison, Sterling, Schuyler, Nicolai and Luca Whittemore; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dell Hunt of Calhoun. Interment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery with services following in the church sanctuary Friday, September 9th at 2:00. Officiating will be Dr. Glenn Ethridge and Rev. Louis Miller. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, GA. 30033.
