Glenn Robert Souther was born on August 7, 1962 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. As a student at Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Glenn discovered his passion for computer science. While still in high school, he began working at the computer lab at Georgia Tech, where he could often be seen perusing foot-high fanfold printouts of computer programs written by undergraduates and sharing his expertise. He went on to earn a degree in computer science at Georgia Tech in 1984. After graduating, he obtained a position in information technology with Martin Marietta in Denver, where he became an avid skier and golfer - and maintained his lifelong devotion to the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
To further his career, Glenn elected to return to school and received an MBA from Cornell, where Professor Robert Jarrow was a much-esteemed mentor, in 1994. He then worked at J.P. Morgan in New York City for a number of years, before accepting the position of Director of Technology at QFR Capital Management. In that capacity Glenn was manager of the team responsible for all hardware and software infrastructure supporting the firm's trading and other operations.
Glenn is survived by his mother, Sandy Souther, his brother, Stuart Souther, and his cousins, Karleen Womble, Laura Frankfort, Lance Souther, Sharon Souther and Brenda Miller. He was preceded in death by his father, George Luke Souther, Jr. He will be remembered as a loyal and much-beloved son, brother and friend, always eager to share his wit, humor and conviviality with everyone he knew. He will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 1790 Lavista Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia.
