Gloria Ann O’Brien was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Born in Chicago on September 10, 1928, she was the only child of John Schager and Alice Butler Schager.
While studying at Loyola University Chicago she met her lifelong love, the dashing former pilot William (Bill) O’Brien, whom she married in 1951. They raised a family of 7 children in Decatur, GA and were blessed with 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
As an active member of St. Thomas More School and Church, Gloria served in many different organizations, including the CFM and the Altar and Rosary Society. She crafted over 3,000 rosaries for overseas missions, and volunteered for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home.
Gloria’s kindness, warm hospitality and curiosity about the world was shared with husband Bill, and they explored the US and many exotic countries until his death in 2010.
She continued traveling, reading, playing games and adventuring with friends, especially enjoying the ballet and theater. She also could not pass up a trip to a museum or garden.
Gloria’s passing on June 16, 2018, brings sadness to all who knew her as she was a most generous and loving person. If you would like to honor her, please send a donation to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home, Atlanta, GA, or take a friend to enjoy a performing art event.
