Gloria J Mills Obituary
Gloria J Mills passed away at her home in Atlanta, Georgia on April 11, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born in Trinidad, West Indies to Lionel and Florence Innocent.
She was predeceased by her parents, her eight siblings and her husband David Mills.
Gloria attended Catholic school and worked in various occupations in Trinidad prior to moving to the United States in her late twenties.
She resided in Washington, DC with her husband and four children for approximately 26 years. She worked for the Government Printing Office in Washington, DC for 22 years until her retirement in 1984. After retirement she relocated to Boynton Beach, Florida where she lived until her move to Atlanta, Georgia in 2016.
Gloria had a beautiful smile and would light up the room with her laughter finding pleasure with the simple things in life. She was an outdoor enthusiast enjoying gardening, road trips, travelling, and going to the beach. She and her husband were very proud of the beautiful plants and flowers including orchids they grew in their yard in addition to the tropical fruits and vegetables that were all organically grown.
She had a great sense of humor and kept us laughing and smiling even when it was not intended to be a joke. She loved her Catholic faith and would tell us often what a staunch Catholic she was from the time she was born. She loved to pray to Mary the mother of Jesus and would encourage us to do the same when things were not going well. She loved to talk and meet new people. She would talk to you all day if she could.
Gloria accomplished so many wonderful things in her long life but what she most cared that others know about her is that she loved her family and friends with all her heart. She is and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
She is survived by her four children Judith (Washington DC), Jennifer (Chicago), Gordon (Homestead), Marsha (Atlanta), granddaughter Casey, a cousin and several nieces and nephews in Trinidad, UK, Canada and the US.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday May 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
