Grace Belle Nester

Grace Nester of Decatur died Saturday, November 26, 2005 of natural causes. Born in Northport, AL, on October 5, 1924, she built radios for the government during World War II, and met her husband during that time. She always wanted to teach, and said that she should've gone to college to study home economics. An avid seamstress and traveler, she retired from the IRS in 1988. Later Mrs. Nester became a homemaker and was devoted to her family. She was an active member of the Columbia Drive Baptist Church and of the Vota Vita Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viola Perkins; husband, Frank Nester; son, Dennis Nester; brother, Barton Perkins; and sister, Mary Frank Gartman. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Jenkins of Suwanee; grandson, Frank Jenkins; sister, Maudra Key and her husband Sam of Tuscaloosa; sister-in-law, Virginia Perkins of Gadsden, AL; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Dr. J. Don Aderhold will officiate. Interment will be at Melwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m.Tuesday morning at A. S. Turner & Sons.
