Mr. Grover Morgan Whitley, age 83, of Atlanta, Georgia died Wednesday, September 5, 2007. He was born in LaGrange, GA, graduated from Georgia Military Academy in College Park, GA., and attended Auburn University, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Mr. Whitley served as a second lieutenant in the U. S. Army, First Division, in World War II. He was a member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple and was a member of the Atlanta Athletic Club for over 50 years. He was President of Whitley Concrete Company until its sale in 1976. Mr. Whitley enjoyed shopping, trips to St. Simons Island, surfing the web, and spending time with his family and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Grover M. (Whit) Whitley, Jr.; brothers, J. T. Whitley and William J. Whitley, both of Atlanta; and sister Mildred Harless of Lake Charles, LA. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Borders Whitley; daughter, Jerry Burgess of Duluth, GA; granddaughters, Wynn and (Phillip) Walter of Watkinsville, GA, and Courtney Burgess of Duluth, GA; great grandchildren, Whitley Anne & Henry Holmes Walter of Watkinsville, GA; and sister, Margaret Combs of Atlanta, GA. He also enjoyed a close relationship with his wife's family in LaGrange, GA: Elizabeth Ballenger, John and Tee Borders, and Martha Borders and their families-his nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 8th at Shadowlawn Cemetery, LaGrange, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, 1680 Tullie Circle, NE, Atlanta GA 30329, ATTN: Gift Processing. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
