Mr. Harold King Gray, 94, of Decatur, GA died October 18, 2004 at Saint Joseph?s Hospital of Atlanta. Mr. Gray was born on April 17, 1910 to Walter E. Gray and Frances Eugenia King Gray of Worthville, GA in Butts County. He was a 1928 graduate of Covington High School and attended Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Gray was predeceased by his first wife of forty years, Martha Robertson Gray. He is survived by his wife of almost thirty years, Lucy Carter Gray. daughter and son-in-law, Frances and W. Jack Oakes of Carrollton, GA and Carrabelle, FL; son, Harold K. Gray of Portland, OR; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Walter Turner of Cartersville, GA; and daughter-in-law, Kathryn Foutz Gray of Portland, OR. He is also survived by grandchildren, Carol Ann Strickland, Elaine Halstead, Ruth Hedges, David Oakes, Dianna Cammarano, Alice Gray, Claire McMahan, and Christopher Gray Turner. Mr. Gray and his wife, Lucy, loved traveling together and visited forty-nine of the fifty United States. He was active in community and civic affairs, serving in Kirkwood Civitan Club. He was retired on June 30, 1972 from almost forty years of service with the Federal Government beginning with the Home Owners Loan Corporation. He was employed by Malaria Control and served in Financial Management as Budget Officer under its new name, the Communicable Disease Center, now known as the Center for Disease Control. Mr. Gray was a founding member of the CDC chapter of the National Association for Retired Federal Employees, a leader of the DeKalb Super Steppers, and a member of the E. A. Minor Lodge #603, F. & A. M. He was ordained a deacon in Kirkwood Baptist Church and was a member of the Pioneers at Rainbow Park Baptist Church. He was a member of Scott Boulevard Baptist Church of Decatur, GA. Mr. Gray was a loving father and husband and was known as a kind, gracious and generous man of great integrity. Memorial gifts may be given to Scott Boulevard Baptist Church, 2532 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033, or the Georgia Baptist Convention Developmental Disabilities Ministries, 2558 Duluth Hwy. NW, Duluth, GA 30097. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20th at 11:00 am at Scott Boulevard Baptist Church, Dr. T. Michael Davis officiating. Burial will be in Covington Cemetery at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
