Harold O. "Hal" Crawford, Jr., 68, of Oakland Park, Florida passed away March 22, 2017. He was born March 4, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Harold O. and Lucille M. (Hasty) Crawford.
After leaving Atlanta, Hal moved to Columbus, Ohio to work for the government. He was then transferred to Richmond, Virginia before moving to Fairfax, Virginia where he was a long-time employee of the Department of Defense until he retired in 2009 due to health issues. In 2016, he moved to South Florida.
He is survived by his sister, Becky Gilbert of Tucker, GA; nieces, Jennifer Mann (Chad) of Johns Creek, GA, and Janey Vaughn (Michael) of Zebulon, GA; nephew, Gregory Gilbert (Lisa) of Tucker, GA, and seven great-nieces and nephews: Jake and Charlie Mann; Kenzie, Cannon and Ariana Gilbert; and Adam and Caleb Vaughn. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. with a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. at AS Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery, 180 Westview Drive SW, Atlanta, GA 30310. Those attending the burial will meet at the gate of the cemetery at 3:45 p.m.
A memorial service will be held in South Florida on April 1, and another is being planned for Virginia in May. The family is grateful for all the love you have shown to Hal throughout his life, and continue to show to his family. He had many wonderful friends, and was loved by all!
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association (www.lung.org) or to the Smithsonian American Art Museum (www.si.edu).
