Harriet Curl Tuggle, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, andfriend passed away on June 2 after a brief illness. She was born on August 26, 1927 to her late parents, Dolores and Harry Curl of Birmingham, Alabama. Harriet grew up in Birmingham, graduated from Woodlawn High School, and studied at Auburn University. In 1947, she met her lifelong love, Harry Paul (Paul) Tuggle, to whom she was married for 69 years, the last 44 living in Atlanta.
Harriet was a dedicated member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where she became lifelong friends with many of the church members. She was a soloist in the Chancel Choir, a member of the Hope Sunday School Class, an officer in the United Methodist Women, a member of the Aiken Circle, and a volunteer with the children’s choir.
Harriet is survived by her husband Paul; her two children, Leigh Tuggle Olivar of San Marino, California and Paul Kennamer Tuggle of Athens, Georgia; her six grandchildren, Robert Patterson Jackson IV, David Harris Jackson, Katherine Tuggle, and Jordan, David, and Harry Olivar III; her two sisters, Betty Jo Williams and Loretta Tysinger; their five children, Lynne Hope, Russell Williams, David Williams, Young Smith, and Rebecca
Smith Frey; and their nine grandchildren and five great- Grandchildren.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Harriet's life will be held on Saturday, June 16, at 11:00 a.m., at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, Georgia. Following the service will be a reception where family and friends will receive guests. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations be made in her memory to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, marked “Traditional Music Fund,” or the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
