Harriet Witte King, 93, died on September 3, 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia. Born in Georgetown, S.C., in 1916, she was the daughter of Armin Franz Witte and Hattie Sparkman Witte. She was the widow of George Savage King, Professor of Law Emeritus at Emory University. Mrs. King attended the College of Charleston and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. She and Prof. King started their lives in Columbia, SC, where she worked for the Richland County Public Library, the Department of Public Welfare, and Eastminster Presbyterian Church. In 1962, they moved to Atlanta, where she became active in the League of Women Voters, the DeKalb Council for the Arts, the DeKalb Commission for Parks and Recreation, and the







Alzheimer's Association . She served as President of the Emory Women's Club and was a founding board member of the Houston Mill House. Despite an active civic life her greatest joy was nurturing six generations of her family. She is survived by her son, George S. King, Jr. of Columbia, S.C., and his wife Geraldine Frampton King; daughter Harriet King Wasserman of Atlanta, and her husband, Michael G. Wasserman; Grandson, George S. King, III and his wife Susanna Lowrey King of Aiken, S.C.; granddaughters, Elizabeth Gregorie King of Milwaukee, Wi, Jill Wasserman of Atlanta, Rebecca F. Wasserman and her husband Noah P. Peeters of Atlanta; and great-grandchildren, David King, Peter King, and Tigerlily Peeters. She is also survived by her brother A. Franz Witte of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and her sister Henriette W. O'Neill of Denver, Co. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 10, at 2p.m. at the Chapel of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga.
