Harry R. Evans, Sr., 89, of Decatur, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 3, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Harry was born in Muleshoe, TX, September 17, 1920 and graduated from Post High School, Post, TX, in 1939. He started work with Kraft Foods in Childress, TX handling the bookkeeping and deliveries himself. It was here that he met his wife, Aline Bryant. Harry joined the United States Army where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Harry returned to work for Kraft Foods in Amarillo, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, Kansas City, and Atlanta, GA, where he was Comptroller for the Atlanta Accounting Center. He retired in 1985 with 43 years service to Kraft. After retiring, Harry and his wife devoted their time to volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, the Belvedere Methodist Church where they were members, and to the Methodist Children’s Home in Decatur, GA. Harry also was a very spirited golfer, walking the Brown’s Mill course once a week with his favorite foursome including his son-in-law, Sam Deitz, and friends, Frank and Joe. In addition, he spent time attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and musical performances. Harry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Aline; son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Cathy of Jacksonville, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Tricia and Sam Deitz of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Christy Kulig, Amy Walters, Randy Evans, Matthew Evans, Michael Evans, Joshua Deitz, Celia Deitz, Jacob Deitz; great-grandchildren, Courtney Kulig, Madison Kulig and Abbie Kulig. He was loved and respected by all those who knew him and will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 7th, Rev. James Sanders officiating. Entombment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at A. S. Turner & Sons.
